Pam was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. Although she was
obsessed with art as a child, a busy corporate career kept her from the
easel until her retirement. A self-taught artist, she has taken numerous
workshops and maintains steady studio, life drawing and plein air practices.
She is particularly drawn to the figure, and explores this difficult subject with
various media. Travel and photography are also passions, and her travel
experiences provide rich inspiration for both her urban landscapes
and figurative work.
Artist's Statement: Living in Western Canada provides a playground of visual beauty for painting 'en plein air'.
Painting outdoors provides invaluable lessons in colour choice, light and shadow, and reducing the subject to
what is material. My greatest pleasure, however, is painting the figure, especially portraits, within the intimacy
of a studio. There is no greater artistic joy for me than the rare moments when the likeness and essence of
the model emerge on paper.
